Magnet Activities

A simple little kit containing two self-contained Magnetic Science Experiment Kits and two magnet games. Use the supplies with a group to demonstrate the intriguing and mysterious world of magnetism. Teaches children about the physics of magnetism in a hands-on and fun way. Not suitable for young children – see safety information below.

Important Safety Information

Swallowed magnets can cause choking and other serious health issues. Do not leave the materials unattended or check the kit out to patrons. It is meant for supervised use within the library setting ONLY. Keep magnets away from small children, electronic devices, credit cards, and pacemakers.

Magnet Game with String, 20 Colorful Magnet Stones

Audience

The Magnetic Science Experiment Kit is aimed at teaching magnetism to young people. The game can be enjoyed by anyone. The Magnetic Science Experiment Kit handbook states that it is “Not suitable for children under 8 years” and also that its small parts are “Not suitable for children under 3 years.” The magnet string game is marketed for ages 9+. These age recommendations aside, it is the duty of library staff to ensure the safety and supervision of this kit AT ALL TIMES.

What You Will Need

Refer to the Magnetic Science Experiment Kits handbook to see what each individual activity requires. You may need to improvise some of your own equipment for some activities. E.g., Instead of a bowl, you can use a cup of water, and make a group activity out of constructing your own box, or finding objects to test out, etc!
