About these “tasting kits”
There are two tasting kits: one on abstract art and one on the art of photography. Almost all of the books were sourced for free thanks to the Art Resources Transfer in New York. This program provides books to libraries across the US completely free of charge (that even includes shipping!). Library workers can support this fantastic program by visiting artresourcestransfer.org to sign up and request books for their library.
You probably won’t find many of these fine art books in most library holdings. These are niche gallery-quality publications on various artists, some of which are well known whereas others might not have much popular recognition.
Taken as a whole, the books offer a unique insight into the medium and can be taken as a “way in” to greater exploration of the topic. We hope you enjoy exploring! If you’re looking for more art kits focused on popular art themes, crafting, and activities, visit: cslkits.cvlsites.org/art-exploration.
Audience and Use
The books, in general, are not aimed at any particular audience and do not contain explicit material. Some books may contain adult themes. The idea of this kit is to make this topic approachable and eye catching in the library space. It could be used in a basic display, as part of a larger passive program, a planned group event, or however best suits your space/community. Part or all of the kit could be used to provide inspiration for group crafting activities, or as the basis for a discussion.
